The opening chapter gives the feeling of isolation of the main character very well, and you are essentially reading his thoughts in diary format. Much description is given to his environment and the only other thing occupying his thoughts - the other inhabitant. Unfortunately, I just could not relate to the character as no background information is given on him to be able to do so. Not for me I'm afraid.
