To read Piranesi is definitely an experience. It is a wonderfully complex and enthralling tale, full of questions until the very end. The pace is quite slow to start, but quickens as answers are revealed and truths are exposed.

Piranesi is a brilliant character, he is incredibly innocent and childlike, and I adored his enjoyment and outlook on the life he lives, and yet there’s an undercurrent of sadness as readers can see just how alone he is. The House where he lives is a character of its own, with magical labyrinth of halls and rooms, but it’s existence raises its own questions.

This is a difficult book to review as so much of my enjoyment of reading this came from a lack of prior knowledge and understanding of what was happening, and I don’t want to spoil anything about this. But I will say it was a brilliant book full of mystery, manipulation, solitude and one that leaves you questioning and reflecting on the book days after you’ve read it. I would highly recommend this.
