'The Beauty of the House is immeasurable; its Kindness infinite.' Susanna Clarke is a masterful storyteller and her book, Piranesi, only confirms it. From the title of the first entry, I was absolutely hooked. She crafts such a rich world full of magic that it leaves you wanting to be right there with Piranesi, exploring the mystery of the great Halls of the House. I fell in love with her vivid descriptions of the Tide Halls and the personification of the statues. The underlying question of Piranesi's sanity is mind-bending and makes you sympathetic to his plight.

If you need an escapist read, this is the book for you. I only wish I could have dwelled in that world longer. If you feel the same, I also highly recommend her first novel, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. Clarke's incredible ability to create unique and intricate worlds will keep you enchanted for years to come.
