I didn’t know a book could make you feel so claustrophobic until now
The story follows Piranesi and the water and statue-filled Labrnyth he lives in. It is a story of loneliness and isolation, betrayal and trust, sanctuary and imprisonment, and most importantly survival.
Although it starts off a little slow, the dream-like eeriness and vivid imagery that Susanna Clarke presents is unbeatable. Although it is a fantasy novel written in first person, I feel like it is a really hones book, with Piranesi being a trustworthy narrator.
However, I do not want to say too much because I feel as though it is better going into this novel with as little information as possible, that way you can get absorbed into the labrynth yourself.
I loved this novel and I think Susanna Clarke did an amazing job with creating this new world. I’d definitely recommend this to those who like fantasy, but I think it’s a great novel for all to read.
