I have to say, I wasn’t a big fan of this book and it massively let me down. The idea for this book seemed so magical and so cool, but unfortunately it was far too long and the footnotes especially were ridiculously long. Although I appreciate the world-building the author did, very long sections of the book were very dry and nothing interesting seemed to be happening. I didn’t overly like or connect to any one the characters and honestly couldn’t care less about some of the central figures in the novel. The ending was slightly confusing and disappointing, I was hoping for a more climatic ending but it was just as boring as the rest of the novel. Unfortunately I really did not enjoy this book and I just don’t think it was for me, I prefer to have my fantasy books a bit more plot-driven. I wouldn’t recommend this book to lovers of fantasy, maybe those with a greater interest in historical fiction would like it more.
