It starts off a little confusing and slow, but gets good around halfway through. Absolutely beautiful ancient imagery, and there's a plot twist which clears all the confusion you had at the start. Very short, and re-readability isn't all that great because the suspense and mystery of the beginning is really required to fully enjoy the atmosphere the author crafted. Highly likeable main character; unintentionally unreliable. The ending is a little meh, though it wraps up the story nicely, I would have preferred it to go in another direction. The second half of the book snowballs extremely quickly, not in an altogether unpleasant way, but I do wish it was further expanded on. If you have watched The Lion King musical, the pacing is quite similar to that.
Overall I really enjoyed the book! The environment created by the author is startlingly beautiful and I've spent hours imagining and reimagining the statues and rooms described.
