Move over, Bridget Jones - there’s a new diarist that has burst onto the scene with this debut book! You get the feeling that this is an author that knows her subject well - motherhood! From the repeated use of wine, Jaffa cakes and soft play, Jo Middleton has captured what it is like to be a single mum in the modern world. I particularly liked the development of the main character and how her relationship with her daughters matures throughout the book. I also appreciated that for the ending it did not rely on the typical ‘woman is complete once man falls in the love with her’.
I am going to recommend this to my mother friends and as it is written in the style of a diary, it is very easy to dip in and out of if you are, also, a busy mum!
