An engaging wartime family saga.

I must confess I usually shy away from any book that promises romantic interludes (or even a family saga for that matter!), but as I like WW2 fiction so I decided to give this a try and I'm glad I did.

As the preparations for a traditional wedding got into full swing I could already sense how the close-knit community and a brood of siblings would be affected by the outbreak of war.

There's a lovely humour that accompanies situations that would make ordinary folk run for the hills which each generation of Brogan's take in their stride. I like them a lot already. There's numerous possibilities to develop each of their characters, especially Mattie who is set on making her education a priority over finding a husband.

Considering I'm not drawn to 'nice' covers I thought this one is a perfect match for the era. The writing had a good rhythm and carried more vibe than I had expected too - I'm very pleasantly surprised!!
