As we enter Autumn and the colder months, I'm always on the look out for spooky tales or cosy tales, ones that will keep me up in the dead of night, unable to stop reading. Since studying Angela Carter's 'The Bloody Chamber' in high school, I've been obsessed with tracking down more myths and fairytales, and the modern re-tellings of them. I think these tales are so perfect for Autumn, they are comforting and familiar, as they are riffs on stories we know, but are still so compelling to read as each new author has a new take. I love that this story seems to revolve around a place called Darkwood, which is so evocative and atmospheric, I can't wait to read more. I love to spend as much time as possible enveloped in a magical (and dangerous) forest!
