Let me just say that this is one of my favourite re-telling's of Snow White with a twist. The story follows Sophie, a beautiful girl who is about to come of age. When she does, she is meant to inherit her fathers throne. Sophie's Stepmother however, believes that she is too weak to reign, and spend years tormenting her that she is not good enough and finally sends the Huntsman to get rid of her.

This story is about character development and our inner spark- Donnelly weaves a strong and empowering novel about kindness and standing up for themselves. There are range of interesting characters, and I like how the story is also told from the Huntsman as I've never read a re-telling from this POV before.

The writing style is fluent, yet simple, with nicely paced chapters. Although over 400 pages long, I went through it quite quickly and I like the progression it goes through.

Overall, a powerful novel that I would recommend for anyone looking for an immersive and dark re-telling.
