A delightful read. We are all very familiar with the old tale but if you want to read an old tale with a new feminist twist then I recommend Poisoned. The author has brought the story right up to the present through modern values and qualities which allow the protagonist to be independent, intelligent and courageous.
Additionally, the story has elements of myths and legends intertwined, which add a sense of darkness and wickedness creating suspense and building the tension in the story.
There are the familiar characters of the dwarves and a Prince Charming and many new characters who all play an integral part in Sophie's development allowing her to grow, learn and commit to becoming a fair and just leader.
If you enjoy retellings then I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Equally if you are not aware of the original then this story will appeal to you too.
