Based on the old version of Snow White this book has a twist in it's tale. Snow White is called Sophie in this novel and if you are expecting a sweet story like the disney version you are in for a shock. This book has an evil side to the characters like you have never read in a fairy story.
The huntsman is sent out by the queen to track down Sophie and told to cut out her heart - her "poisoned" heart. He is so afraid of the queen and what she might do to him if he doesn't obey her commands that he does in fact do this evil deed.
But every fairy tale can have a happy section. Snow White likes dead in the forest, but along come, of all things, seven men. They decide to help Sophie live again and build her a clockwork heart. It ticks and breathes new life into her. But she has a heavy burden to bear - she doesn't really want to rule the kingdom.
The author has certainly thought out the characters and of how the female side of the novel should be brought out to the forefront. Quite a lot different to the story I was brought up with as a girl
