When we think of Snow White we tend to imagine the cute Disney version of the girl who talks to the birds and resides happily with the Seven Dwarfs.
Poisoned takes more of it's influences from the original Grimm fairy tales - which were, frankly, pretty grim and gruesome.
In this tale Snow White is actually Princess Sophie, but the huntsman, "wicked" step mother and seven small folk are all still present.
Sophie is kind. She cares. She sees the suffering around her and wishes she could do more about it. Despite the fact that she's due to become Queen on her 18th birthday, her step mother says that to rule you must be harsh, even cruel, and she is searching for a husband for Sophie so that he can rule the kingdom effectively.
However suitors are not necessarily what they seem and when the huntsman takes Sophie into the woods and cuts out her heart how could she possibly survive?
Poor Sophie has to get through multiple attempts on her life whilst she is "banished" from the palace but she gets the chance to meet some of her subjects and comes to realise that her "weaknesses" are exactly what will make her a strong Queen.
This is a classic fairy tale where good battles evil and, crikey, it really feels like the bad guys have got this one in the bag!
