Jennifer Donnelly has done it again!
The original portrayals in the true fairytales aren't my favourite so it was exciting to see how Donnelly created a splendidly feminist reimagined version!
This particular novel follows Sophie who is due to inherit her father's throne. However, all of society, including her step-mother have other ideas and believe she is too fragile and weak-minded to rule.
Her step-mother wants to prevent Sophie from achieving the throne and in an effort to do so she sends a huntsman after her.
In order to not only avenge her father but prove herself, Sophie must battle in order to exemplify that she is worthy and fit for the throne and prove that kindness is not a weakness.
