Dark Twist on a Classic
Poisoned is another brilliant dark retelling of a classic fairytale from Jennifer Donnelly adding extra layers to create a unique and gripping retelling. The story brilliantly conveys messages of the power of kindness and not letting fear win.
The story moves with a sense of urgency, a race against time as Sophie's Clockwork heart is running down and she is on her quest to get it back from The King of Crows. Meeting a wide range of friends and enemies and some that are somewhere in between along her journey. Poisoned is a tale of courage and confidence themes that are so often missing in other retellings of the classic story.
The storytelling is excellent throughout keeping you enthralled and making it a truly binge worthy book. I particularly enjoyed the fact romance wasn't at the forefront of the story, although it inevitably factored into the story it didn't come across as a major theme which romance so often is in other YA fiction.
If you enjoy dark twists on classic stories then this is defiantly for you.
