Feminist Fairy Tale
This empowering retelling of the fairy tale Snow White is beautifully written by Jennifer Donnelly.
I love her style of writing and how she can make a story so dark and yet also have such hope and love within the pages.
This book has all the elements I loved from her previous book Stepsister but this time with even more fantasy, darkness and emotion than I thought was possible to add. I loved following the journey of Sophie in the search for her heart and all the wicked and wonderful characters she meets along the way. Jennifer has even managed to make a spider endearing to me during this tale.
I devoured this book like you would a ration of bread and cheese if trapped in Darkwood.
This story really touched my heart in so many ways. A classic tale that through its twists and turns teaches us a moral that we all very much need reminding of in these modern yet scary times.
