Having read 'Stepsister' by Jennifer Donnelly, I was initially struck by her different portrayal of her characters, painting the story in a more feministic way which contrasted the role depicted in the stereotypical Disney film.

At first glance, the cover page is striking, having that symbolic red apple in a fragmented style is truly affective, giving it that magical element yet showing how (hopefully) it would differ from the original story.

With this in mind, and by reading the synopsis and the 'First Look' of this book, I think it's safe to say that Donnelly has done it once again. I'm really looking forward to reading and seeing how she illustrates the character of Snow White which is stereotypically view as a naive and passive fairytale heroine. Hopefully Donnelly's version of Snow White moves away from this Disney version and shows the character's potential in an empowered and realistic way.
Can't wait to read it!
