I wasn’t sure about this book when I was offered the chance to read it because Snow White has never been my favorite fairy tale but I’m so glad I I took a chance on it because it’s a very well done story. In fact instead of being just the classic story or an altered one it’s actually a very different one and more of an adventure story which I really enjoyed. It begins with a flash forward showing us where this book will be a departure from the classic telling and then it backtracked to get us to that scene so for me that made the opening of the book slow. It also seemed odd that in backtracking to better understand her origin story we did not get a good explanation of how she ended up in the woods with the Huntsman. This version has a lot of fantastical creatures which were unexpected. I thought the story really picked up when Sophie left the conventional part of the story behind and begins her adventure to parts unknown. Along the way there will be unexpected surprises and new characters. I really enjoyed this part of the book and I think it’s worth going in as I did with no idea where it was going so I will leave my review without any clues but say it’s a fun journey for the reader.
