I find the premise of a retelling of Snow White in a more feminist light, interesting. What I found the most appealing about the insert is the author's writing style, the rich descriptions she uses are very appealing to me, but also her character development.
Let's take the queen for example, she's clearly over men's automatic deserving of respect. It has made her cruel and bitter. Then there in the princess, she seems young, weak and fragile. I like to think that this character goes on to teach the reader that there is strength in kindness.
That idea of the struggle every woman of power faces: do you get more bees with honey or, must you rule with an iron fist. It's a really relatable notion for most modern women.
Then there is the observer point of view. This book is told from the point of view of a person that is present through the whole story, serving as a seemingly unbiased observer, but is he?
Finally there is the mystery villain, I have a feeling this question of who is the real villain in the story will provide a very satisfying plot twist and I can't wait to find out what it is!
