I wasn't even aware that Jennifer Donnelly was releasing a new book...

...until I spotted this in a giveaway, which I won! I'm so happy I found it though, because this is a seriously fun, dark, feminist retelling of Snow White, with a shocking ending that I never could have guessed.

I love stories featuring a ragtag group of friends, making their way across the land (or across space in some cases) on an epic quest. Snow White's quest to win her heart back from The King Of Crows sees her befriend the seven dwarfs, a hunter, a grave robber and various animals, while linking the story closely to the original Grimm tale.

At times, the pacing of this book was a little slow, and the chapters felt quite choppy, which I didn't like as much, I didn't see the point of having an entire chapter on half a page, followed by another chapter that was 5+ pages long. This book was a really quick read though, which made up for it.

This book was amazing, with vivid, descriptive characters and a world that felt familiar and new at the same time. This made me want to read the first book, Stepsister (which is only connected to this one by universe) as soon as possible. The ending gave me hope that we'll soon be seeing more retellings set in this world too!
