The cover immediately draws you in with the beautiful depiction of an apple breaking apart: a small insight into what the story will be like.
Snow White is reimagined in this novel as a young girl presenting a facade to the ruthless world she is a part of. She pretends to be the princess her stepmother wants: vicious, strong, cruel. But in reality she is scared and has a gentle, caring nature.
The novel opens with the fairytale opening of Snow White and the huntsman but instead of being let go, we see Snow White killed. There is some ominous foreshadowing about the forest and the characters who dwell within it during this chapter which intrigues the reader straight away. The writing style effortlessly creates sympathy within us for the young girl we see.
As we then go on to see Snow White alive, we assume we will see what leads up to her death. Will there be any twists and turns along the way? I sure hope so!
