I loved the first bit of the novel where a prologue was written which subtly introduced who seemed like the main character. It seems to be filled with blood and gore and set in an almost fantastical world. The writing style is quite wordy and was hard to follow for a few pages but it pulls you in even more because you have to keep your concentration. The characters so far seem to be quite complex at first but once the depth of their personality is revealed, I find that they are easier to relate to.
The contrast in the first line almost seems to suggest a cyclical structure. It is a normal mystery, thriller type of story.
I feel as though sometimes the wording gets a little too simple and doesn't have those same metaphors that are supposed to be soul-reaching and the writing, therefore, becomes a little flat and boring but overall, the book, at first glance, was quite interesting.
