First of all, I am always looking for new fairy tale retelling, it is such a fun sub genre of fantasy to explore! From the first thirty pages I was able to read, this book seems like it will live up to my expectations of a good retelling.
The first thing I noticed was the writing style. It really captured the feeling of a fairy tale, which is not always the case with retellings! Not only did it feel lyrical like a fairy tale novel, it also had a dark and mysterious undertone, which is something I love in books.
Also, the characters seemed interesting, snarky, and varied. Even though a lot seemed to be building right off the bat, it was not too difficult to keep the characters straight, they had distinct enough voices and personalities to be distinguishable.
Overall, I am really excited about this new release, and being able to read and review the whole book!
