This book is the first fairy tale retelling I've read. As a child and even now I love fairy tales whether they are the Grimms or Disney.
Poisoned is a retelling of Snow White and as it's my first time dipping into this genre I didn't really know what to expect. The story starts with Sophie ( Snow White ) being taken into the forest by the huntsman and being saved by the seven brothers.
The Snow White story is there, with lots of situations that I was familiar with. The story did become it's own with what happens to Sophie.
However I just could not get on with this book. I enjoyed parts of it but the rest just did not gel with me. I struggled with the fantasy parts such as a spider who cooks and a ladybug who sews.
Fantasy is not my genre, this is the reason I struggled and to be fair the fantasy is not too heavy. I think I will stick with the fairy tales I know but will give The Twisted Tales ago as I do have some of those on my shelf.
