After reading Jennifer Donnelly's first book, Step Sister, I was definitely interested in reading her second. The first one proved to be a really interesting feminist story based on the original cinderella story. I very much enjoy it. And reading Poisoned was no different. The story follows Sophie, in the place of Snow White, whose father, the king, passed away 6 years prior. In this time the queen Adelaide has taken over as regent up Sophie is fit to reign. But of course this doe not go to plan.

The seven dwarfs, or brothers in the case of this book, are witty, and provide great comic relief to the underlying story of fight, freedom, and feminist power.

It is a great retelling and one I would recommend to all. Perfect for ya readers. It is most definitely the retelling I wish I had when I was younger and I hope those who are growing up in our society today will appreciate it just as much!
