Donnelly's novel is a reimagining of the story of Snow White.
The characters were charmingly funny and sometimes devious, the writing was exceptional, and the story incorporated the core basis of the fairytale. The author spurns a feminist takeover on this beloved old fairytale, and is a real symbol of empowerment.
I would recommend Poisoned for ages 14 years and above as is really quite involved with fundamental messages and a strong line in sarcastic humour! The author takes a fairytale that has been written about so many times and creates a story so familiar in regards to the core pillar of the fairytale but simultaneously is so unique. As you join Sophie on her journey to take back her kingdom it fills you with excitement and in this case it really is all about the journey rather than the designation. Poisoned heightens the messages in the original tale and is a highly recommended read.
