Wow Jennifer Donnelly really out did herself! This is such a unique retelling of a classic tale but with a really fresh feminist lense which I really appreciate! Jennifer Donnelly has an amazing, addictive style of writing that I found incredibly immersive and all of her characters were so complex and complicated that it made it hard to put this book down, I read the whole book from cover to cover in one sitting! I’ve always loved the Disney version of Snow White but this is so much more gritty, I love it! Sophie was a perfect protagonist and all the side characters were so likeable, especially Arno. Arno is so funny, he is sarcastic and humorous but also has so much depth and complexity that he feels like so much more than *just* a side character. Ugh and the character of Haakon was awful but that was the point, Donnelly did an amazing job of making me hate him. Overall this is such a dark but exquisite retelling of Snow White and perfect for fans of Step Sister!
