A insightful look into the real villains of the classic tale of Snow White. It is an enticing read with even more darkness woven onto the chapters. It starts with the death of Snow White, instantly thrown into the heart of tragedy and a far cry from happy ever after, only enthrals you to continue to read, despite your prior experience of this well known tale, it promises a great read. The next scene is fast paced and depicts the queen and princess hunting a wolf. The intensity of the chase makes you think of competitive advantages of the first to slay the wolf, then the princess on outwitting the queen, manages to instead, let the wolf escape on purpose. This displays the princess compassion, but her need to pretend otherwise is further emphasised when the consequences of each of her acts of kindness creates havoc and more vengeful acts of cruelty from the queen. Cleverly written, as just as you begin to hate the queen, the author hints that the queen too is also pretending to be cold hearted and ruthless, but this is more a gender related void, political and a necessity to ensure acceptance of a female being able to rule and a woman’s natural tendencies to be merciful, not be exploited. Over all, a modernistic and more realistic reasoning for character study on the classic wicked queen.
