This was so inventive and unusual, I have read many "corrupted" Fairytales over the years and just love them, all the different spins on classical children's stories.
For some reason they just seem to work and this was no exception.
Sophie a princess is taken into the forest one day and slain by a huntsman on her stepmother's orders.
She should be dead but thanks to the dwarves she wakes up with a brand new clockwork heart but it only has limited time to beat.
Sophie must find her real heart and also save her kingdom from the evil queen and the dark forces gathering over the land who are all jockeying for the throne.
Can she take back the throne and restore the kingdom to prosperity and prove that to have a heart and be able to show love is truly to conquer all.
This was a deep, dark fantasy that was so well done and kept a lot of the classical elements infused with the new and I think that's why for me it was so successful, it was at the same vastly different but still recognisable for the original story with a delicious, gruesome, supernatural edge.
