You start reading the first chapter unassumingly, a woman's appearance is being described and then you reach the end of the sentence where you see the words "as I'll later tell the police." What?
We start the excerpt with an interaction between our protagonist Emily and Leah, a fun loving, quirky girl who Emily's 'always been jealous' over.
We find out that Leah disappears shortly after seeing Emily, filling our brains with so many questions - what happened to Leah? Where did she go? Were did her belongings go?
25 years later and Leah is still missing and Emily has a son now. She rushes back to New Zealand after finding out her father has Alzheimers, that is getting bad. He hands her an envelope, instructing her not to open it until after his death. If I wasn't already intrigued, now my curiosity is at an all time high.
From the first impression, I'm immediately hooked and want to find out the mysteries that the excerpt has already built up. The blurb tells us that Emily finds out secrets about her father's past, so maybe he has something to do with Leah's disapperance? I can't wait to find out!!
