The start of Remember Me sets the scene for the intriguing mystery surrounding the disappearance of Leah Parata, a young doctor who went into the hills one day. No trace was ever found of her or any of her belongings. The central character is Emily who was Leah's neighbour and a few years younger than her. She was more friendly with Ira, Leah's younger brother, while Leah was a contemporary of Eddie and Carmen, Emily's older twin siblings. The two families were very close as they grew up in New Zealand although Emily left to travel and, at the start of this book, is living in London. She receives a call from Raewyn, Ira and Leah's mother, who tells her her father has Alzheimer's. She feels Emily needs to be there so, for the first time in a few years, she returns to New Zealand and her father who is alone as his wife died some years previously. Charity Norman writes with compassion of Alzheimer's and also Huntingdon's which Raewyn's husband died of, also some time ago. On her first night back Emily's father gives her an envelope to be opened after his death which she thinks might be his will. But is it or could it possibly hold information about Leah's disappearance? Very much looking forward to reading the rest of this book.
