Wonderful, picturesque, frightening, credible.

The book has a great opening paragraph, it really is a spider's web that scoots you straight into this superbly crafted story with its many layers. Alzheimers in a parent is desperately difficult. It takes skill to write a story where one's father has it, and knows he has it, and the effect on the children, but Charity Norman has achieved this so well. In a way, it is not a "comfortable" book to read, as it is an uncomfortable subject, but the handling of it, and the way that New Zealand's character comes across, makes this a best seller.
The cover is indistinct and bland, until you read the book you don't "get" the cover - I think it lets down a good book.
