25 years ago Leah Parata disappears after heading into the mountain range to do some work on some endangered snails, it's a hike she has done many times before but this time she never returns and now one knows what happened. Present day Emily Kirkland returns to New Zealand to care for her father, Felix, who has alzheimers after a phone call from a neighbour, Raewyn, who is also Leah's mother. As her dad's memory fades and his guard slips he starts to talk about Leah, saying he loved her but then saying he killed her. Emily does not know what to believe and struggling with looking after her father with her sister and brother on her back about putting him a care home she unravels secrets from the past. This is an emotional story that is well written and gives an insight into caring for someone with Alzheimers as well as unraveling a mystery from 25 years ago.
