Sometimes just by chance you stumble upon a book that you completely fall in love with, one that you cannot put down until finished, this is one such book.

Emily returns to New Zealand to visit her father who has developed Alzheimer's disease. Once there she starts to rebuild their relationship, confidences and past memories are shared, and she decides to stay longer to care for him. However the secrets become more difficult to manage and keep for both her father and the small community they live in.

The author really captured the confusion of someone living with dementia, the emotions of the family and friends, some trying to do their best, others thinking they knew best, and Emily's desperate attempts t protect her father.

I loved this novel from the very first page, and was sad to leave it at the end.

I have never read any of this authors work before, but I am already looking for more.
