As soon as I read the first page, I was 'hooked' and engaged. The story was well written and unusually for me - I made the time to read this book in the week it took me to complete it. This is simply due to the way the story unfolded - tid bits of information were revealed to keep the reader engaged, and as the mystery of a 25 years old missing person unsurfaced, revelations begin to unravel from different viewpoints to allow a picture to build up, as well as the difficulty of dealing with the last days of an elderly parent (with or without dementia) which was handled thoughtfully. Perhaps the only (very small) disappointment was the lack of romance in our heroine's life and the lack of bonding with her siblings. New Zealand scenery was beautifully depicted for the reader to give a good understanding of the depth and breadth of the 'wild' outback, its beauty and dangers that it can bring.
