I have recently discovered this author and they deliver a brilliant and shocking read every single time. The book starts with a grim mystery of a missing woman and nothing left behind to indicate where she may have gone, or if she left alive. What is particularly intriguing is that the woman disappeared in the wilderness, somewhere she went regularly and was competent and able to navigate. Whilst this mystery kept me reading on, the story quickly develops into a family drama and an insightful and well-researched look into living with a family member who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. It is heart-wrenching and, as someone with family experience of this awful disease, incredibly realistic. The book asks whether a person with Alzheimer’s is the same person as they were before the memory loss and what would you do to protect your loved ones. It is thought-provoking and intense. I could not put it down and the ending was brilliant – I did not see it coming! I cannot wait for this authors next release, they are now an auto-buy author for me.
