I have to admit that the cover of this probably wouldn't have sold it to me, but wow, what a read! A new author to me, I will certainly look out for more by Charity Norman. This was beautifully written, with the mystery of Leah's disappearance at it's core, but not taking away from the wonderful characterisation throughout. Emily was a great main character. Believable, likeable, yes flawed but in a nice way. I loved how the thread of the children's books she was illustrating ran through the endless story. Her siblings were awful 😖 !
In many ways this is a love story on so many different levels: between mother & son; father and daughter; neighbours, friends. I also felt this showed a real personal relationship between the UK and New Zealand. Without giving any spoilers, the ending was sad, yes, but also quite satisfying; the only possible way it could conclude. A highly recommended read!
