Even just from this short extract my heart breaks for Missy! She is clearly agonisingly lonely yet so worried she would be a burden to others she cannot make friends with anybody. I already imagine that hers and her husbands lives were so intertwined; like so many couples, they had nobody but each other and now he’s gone she doesn’t know what to do!
I’m eager to discover what happened with Missy and her daughter though. And really hope she manages to open up to somebody.
I absolutely loved this quote too because let’s be honest is true 85% of the time - ‘Children are so beautiful, flawless and shiny, like a conker newly out of its shell. Such a shame they all grow up to be abominable adults.’
It seems like such a beautifully written story, although I do wonder how it progresses to a full book.
