Initially, this appears to be a sorrowful tale of lost chances, reminiscent of Auden’s Miss Edith Gee. However, the story becomes more uplifting, as the eponymous Missy meets new people and finds new enjoyment in life; to be enjoyed by readers of all ages, this is a story that celebrates age, rather than shying from it.
