This is a book I’d like to continue reading. The author has woven into the first few chapters hints of a significant tragic event, which have deeply affected the title character. I liked the way the author included authentic language and phrases from that generation, reminding me of my grandparents, yet depicting Missie as more than just a sweet old lady.
The encounter with Sylvia, Angie and Otis made me curious about what might develop later in the book, and the little details shared about characters and surroundings made the story richer and more credible. I liked what I read, but sadly I didn’t like the cover so much as it seemed rather a caricature of what I am hoping to be a more nuanced, multilayered character.
