"I felt myself fall amidst reaching hands and faraway shouts as the blackness took over "

The audience is presented with an old woman who has clearly lost many people in her life, either by death or because they have moved away to a different country. We get the impression that not only is she alone but she is tired of the loneliness, hence why she seems so eager to pass the time watching fish being electrocuted for a chance of seeing a little boy again.

The cover definitely portrays the protagonists loneliness, and from what I've read so far, it's going to be a brilliant book.
