MIssy is a seventy nine year old widow whose son and grandson live in Australia, She also has a daughter although there is a coolness between them. Alistair and Arthur, Missy's son and grandson, visited her for Christmas but Christmas is past now and Missy is missing them terribly. While walking in the park she sees a mother with her son who reminds her of her grandson. Missy goes to the park again to see the fish being stunned and moved to another pond although she's really hoping to see the little boy again. While there she passes out and is helped by Sylvie who knows the mother and little boy and she asks Missy to join them for coffee but she refuses. Missy muses about the time she was a child during the war and being sent with her brother to an aunt for safety. She meets Sylvie again and Sylvie once again invites her for coffee but Missy won't go although she does go for coffee on her own. Missy is at an age when friends are dying too often and Beth Morrey captures the feelings of loneliness and isolation so often felt by the elderly. Saving Missy is the author's debut novel and is sure to be a success. Readers will hope the title lives up to its promise and Missy is saved and finds new friends.
