This is an uplifting story about 79 year old Missy Carmichael who meets Sylvie and her friend Angela after passing out in her local park one day. Missy is widowed and living alone, keeping to herself but finds herself lonely most days. New friendships are slowly formed and Missy becomes a part of Sylvie's and Angela's lives, also finding the courage to try new things. She finds herself enjoying the company of Angela and her son, Otis and takes on temporary ownership of a dog after a frightening break-in to her home.
Scattered throughout the novel are flashbacks to Missy's life as a young girl and of her marriage to Leo and rocky relationship with her two children, Alistair and Melanie.
