Saving Missy isn't of a genre I would usually find myself reading but I don't regret sitting down to read it in one afternoon.

This book is such an story of hope, love and loss and is from the perspective of an older lady aged 79. We join her at a difficult time in her life with her husband gone, her son living abroad and struggling with a difficult relationship with her daughter. We see Missy as she navigates her struggle with loneliness, new friendships and a new job.

This is interweaved with flashbacks to help us understand her relationships with her children and the one she shared with her husband. It also addresses current affairs and generational prejudices which I think is wonderful as we see these things from an older ladies perspective and really helps us understand the way Missy is feeling.

I think this book reminds us all to take a moment to smile at someone or say hello as we have no idea the situation that person is on and a little kindness could make someone's day.

Overall an excellent debut from Beth Morrey and I will be interested to see her next work.
