Saving Missy is a beautiful and moving story of finding love and hope after grief and loss. I found Missy to be such an endearing character that I warmed to her instantly and loved following her journey as she opened herself up to new opportunities and new friendships after struggling with her loneliness and isolation.
Each of the characters in this book came to life and were so well developed that they felt like people you would meet in real life. They were all flawed and had their own issues going on but this book showed how true friendship can occur between the most unlikely people. The bonds that Missy forms with the two women she meets in the park, and the beautiful dog Bobby who she adopts, transform her life and bring a renewed sense of hope.
We slowly learn of Missy's past and the ups and downs of her relationships with her husband Leo and her now grown-up children through a series of flashbacks which worked really well in the narrative. I liked they way these fragments pieced together to allow the reader to fully understand why Missy thinks and feels the way she does.
Overall I thought this was a fantastic debut novel and one that I didn't want to end. I can't wait to see what this author writes next.
