This is a tale about an elderly lady whose beloved husband has passed away. Her son and much adored grandson have emigrated to Australia. She is lonely but cautious about striking up an offered friendship with a lady she encountered in the park. There is an, as yet undisclosed, animosity between this central character and her daughter whom she has not seen for a long time. Whatever happened between them has left her mother carrying a heavy burden of guilt which when it arises she hastily pushes back, down deeply.
The central character, at this early stage of the narrative, behaves and acts like a lonely elderly person but one can sense a young spirit lurking awaiting release.
Generally I avoid stories about the elderly, much too depressing, however I found myself enjoying this tale immensely. The writing style is excellent drawing the reader into the scene.
