Missy Carmichael is the kind of older person that is completely buttoned up. She has led a very closeted life throughout her life and marriage and is of the belief that most things shouldn't be discussed.
The story starts with her visiting the local park to see the fish being stunned before being moved to another pond. Whilst there she meets Angela, a single mother to Otis and Sylvie, an outgoing designer. When she is invited for coffee, she declines, believing that they are only being polite, but uncharacteristically she changes her mind and in doing so finds that, over time, her life changes. As a favour to Angela, she agrees to look after Bob, the dog belonging to a friend of hers who is going through a break up. Having to walk Bob and tend to her needs gives Missy a reason to be and through this she meets more people, who in turn have a positive effect on her life.
This is a charming book which will have you laughing and crying, but mostly you will enjoy it.
