At first I wasn't a fan of Missy with her judgements and her closed off approach to life but as the book went on I became absorbed in her world and her journey to becoming a better person. Missy is flawed and so are the other characters and the book isn't about removing those flaws or pretending that they're perfect people. I loved the focus on friendship and finding an identity within a caring community and opening herself up to new people as well as mending old relationships.

The revelation towards the end of the book almost made me reread the book immediately with the new information in mind. It completely caught me by surprise.

The writing flowed so well and it made me feel like I was becoming friends with Missy and just listening to her telling the story of her life. The flashbacks provided a nice break from the present storyline but also added to Missy's character and explained her though-process or opinions on certain matters.
