This is an endearing book. Missy is bumbling through old age, trying to survive her new lonely existence.

However her life is turned around when she meets Angela, Otis and Sylvie. Missy is not so keen on Angela, but puts up with her as she provides Otis, who reminds Missy of her beloved grandson who lives in Australia.

As the book continues we learn about Missy’s complex life and the skeletons in her attic. Missy’s group of friends grow, make her into a dog owner, which further widens her circle, and she finds that life is worth living after all.

It is a rollercoaster though as secrets are uncovered and difficult facts have to be faced.

The ending of the book is somewhat far fetched. I love the premise of it but think in reality it would be difficult to find this happening.

The relationship between Missy and Leo is difficult and I am still unsure how I feel about it. His letter to her is beautiful but it still feels like he settled for her instead of being in love.
