This book really drew me in, and by the end I was in tears!.
The title character Missy is a 79 year old, living alone, who feels lonely and cut off from others until a chance encounter in the park leads to her forming tentative new friendships, and starting to rediscover life.
Interestingly, for a main character, I didn't find Missy immediately likeable. She is prickly, aprupt, slightly snobby, and voted leave in the Brexit vote!
But as the story progresses and more of her back story is told, as well as her growing interactions with others, I grew to understand and like her more, and by the end of the book found myself crying for the way things turned out for her.
This is a really well written, thoughtful book which deals with loneliness and the barriers people build up around themselves really well. It also writes about the joy of intergenerational relationships in a really great way.
Thanks to Reader's First for sending me an advance copy, and letting me discover Missy. I hope this book does really well, it certainly deserves to.
